Making vinyl records

Making a vinyl record* is a long process. First, an original recording is made on a metal disc coated with nitrocellulose. This “master” disc is used to make a metal die press (silver and nickel), which is finally pressed into black polyvinyl chloride (PVC) “biscuits” (while heated). Making the final disc takes less than half a minute, but it’s a long process to get there!
