New York has found a nifty new use for its 5,000 public pay phones. It’s converted them to virtual time machines! Pick up the receiver and dial 1--DIAL-1993 to hear a New Yorker talking about what was the dealio around your particular pay phone in 1993.
The city-wide “experiment in collective memory” was put together by the New Museum. (There was an accompanying exhibition in the gallery space too).
